Over the weekend, I made a few trips to Target, as usual. During one of them, Little J decided that he wanted me to buy a really big drum of pretzel rods. Naturally, he had to also snack on them throughout the store.
My brain was filling up with fun ideas about what we could do with all of the pretzels. Since Halloween is right around the corner, it was only fitting that we should make some spooky treats!
Here's what you'll need to recreate the Ghastly Ghost and Mischievous Monster pretzel rods:
-white chocolate/baking morsels
If you're making both kinds (ghosts and monsters) you'll need 2 separate bowls for this project.
Melt the baking morsels according to the directions on the back of the package. I used half of the bag for the ghosts and the other half of the bag for the monsters.
Sprinkle coconut flakes onto another plate. Lay a sheet of wax paper down on your workspace.
Then, let the fun begin!
The boys had so much fun creating their pretzels. I'm not sure if they ate more than they decorated, but that was all part of the fun.
Little J loved sticking the eyeballs onto the green monsters! It was a job that he took very seriously, as you can tell in the pic above.
This was a messy afternoon, but well worth it to let the boys enjoy creating cute treats. Plus, it had been raining earlier, and the grass was a little too soggy and muddy to run around outside. So, I chose coconut flakes on the floor instead of mud...gotta pick your battles, I guess! :)
Lay your creations onto the wax paper when they are complete so they can dry. We left ours overnight.
The excess chocolate easily broke off, and they looked great!
You can wrap them up in a little cellophane bag and give them as a spooky treat to your friends. Enjoy, and happy haunting!
Check out what we made last year, too:
