Some people have magical babies who never have any teething symptoms...mine is not one of them. Some people have magical babies who sleep through the night...mine is not one of those, either. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining...just simply stating facts :)
So combine teething with not sleeping through the night, and things can get interesting. Who knew that you could exist on only 4 hours of sleep per night? I am someone who used to enjoy the luxury of sleeping about 8-10 hours every night...especially during pregnancy while I was waiting for my little man to be born.
When I first had Baby J, I had been seeing lots of babies wearing amber necklaces. At first, I thought it was just a fashion statement. Upon asking what they were all about, I found out that they are amber teething necklaces. Naturally, I thought that babies were supposed to chew on the amber. Gross. Who wants to chew on tree sap? Quite to the contrary, there is no chewing going on. Babies just wear the necklace and as the amber warms it releases special powers to give you a magical baby that doesn't have teething symptoms! (Obviously, I was sold when I found this out!!! It would transform Baby J into the mythical magical baby that sleeps and doesn't drool/cry/whine/chew everything in sight...perfect!!)
A lot of moms were recommending that I order from Inspired by Finn. I ordered a raw amber necklace called "Lemonade". We just got it 2 days ago...so I cannot yet attest to whether or not it has changed our lives...but it can't hurt. I will most certainly keep you posted on how well it has been working.
To add to all of this, Baby J just got his first cold!! I'm fairly certain it's just related to teething. It's not a full-blown cold...mostly just stuffiness. Last night, he basically didn't sleep. He couldn't breathe out of his nose and that wasn't conducive to anyone getting any rest. Of course, I was more than happy to hold him and console him.
To help him feel some relief, I have been using saline drops and the nasal aspirator to clear him out. (Which, by the way, makes him scream like a lunatic). I have the cold mist air humidifier running with added eucalyptus oil in it to help the baby's breathing. So, far it seems to be helping. Fingers crossed it's cleared up tomorrow.

As a side note, I try to mostly use products that are natural. I'm not by any means "crunchy" or "granola"(google "crunchy mom" if you're not familiar)...as I described myself to my playgroup moms the other morning, I'm more like "soggy granola" hahaha). My son was fed breast milk for 5 months and is now on formula, we co-sleep but he has his Arms Reach Co-Sleeper that he spends half the night in, I occasionally baby wear, I make my own baby food but I'm not opposed to organic ready-made commercial baby food when we're out on-the-go. So, as you can see...I fail at being very crunchy/granola...hence my soggy granola description.
I don't know how moms with more than 1 baby do it. When do you sleep?? I give you ladies so much credit!! I have a lot to learn from you.
I'm headed to sleep now...while Baby J is (briefly) asleep. Goodnight all and thanks for reading!! :)

Still love your soggy granola description!
ReplyDeleteEthan was a little bit of a crankpot during teething, but NOTHING has compared to his molars which came in at the same time as his eye teeth. BRUTAL.
Let me know how the amber necklace works! We never got one. I'm not sure why. I got these natural maple teethers by Schoolhouse Naturals that Ethan has always gnawed on while teething. Everyone asks why he's gnawing on hamster blocks buuuuuuuuut...they work, haha. I'm curious as to if the necklace helps!
HAHA Lindsay, yes fun description!
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely keep everyone posted about the necklace. I hope it works!! Oh boy, do I!! :)
New moms have the hardest jobs. No sleep and when you have a teething or not feeling well baby, the job is 100 times harder. Big hugs to you!
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by my blog, following you back :)
